Behavioral change in the RivierPark Maasvallei, actions have been successful

The actions related to behavioral change in the RivierPark Maasvallei, which took place during last summer period, have been successful. There were enforcement campaigns both to Dutch Limburg and on the Flemish side of the Limburgse Maas. These actions were supported and coordinated by Mooimakers, the Flemish initiative against litter and illegal dumping. No enforcement actions within the meaning of clairs, but especially appealing to people on their behavior. Understood their behavior with regard to waste. A short information film has been made of this promotion. Click on this article on the link and view and listen to, among other things, Katrien Schaerlaekens, project leader of RivierPark Maasvallei, how we tackle the problem of illegal dump and litter together.

Thorn in the eye

Spruce death and litter has been a thorn in the mind of Lives’s partners for years. One of the spearheads in the project is therefore setting up communication activities and awareness campaigns to ensure that people no longer leave their waste on the banks of the Maas. Together with citizens, we want to ensure that waste is thrown into the nearest waste bin as much as possible in the nearest waste bin. Because waste that is not on the shore can also no longer end up with high water in the Maas.

Focus on collaboration

The focus in the entire Lives project is cooperation. Also for this activity, the LIVES Partners OVAM and Vlaamse Waterweg work closely with the Vlaamse Limburg Landschap, Natuurpunt and 5 Flemish Meuse community. The entire Maasoever, but especially the RivierPark Maasvallei in particular, must remain beautiful. In addition to training river researchers, a lot of energy is put into regularly cleaning up. These enforcement actions are the third puzzle piece in the whole. Enforcement actions with a positive attitude. Especially the emphasis is placed on appealing people on their behavior. That is not only warning or admonent but also complimenting. The video below shows that there are also enough people who deal with their waste very consciously.
