Information boards at littertraps VMM

The Flanders Environment Agency (Vlaamse Milieu Maatschappij; VMM) has placed information boards at the littertraps it has placed in the Meuse and Demer. The aim of these information boards is, among other things, to inform the general public/visitors about the importance of a clean river. In addition, information is also provided about the purpose of the Litter Free Rivers and Streams (LIVES) project.

In total seven littertraps have been placed by the Flanders Environment Agency (VMM) in the Meuse and Demer catchment areas. The littertraps are a result from the objectives of LIVES Work Package 2: ‘Benchmark of the techniques to reduce plastic waste in the Meuse catchment area’. In this context, various partners involved in LIVES place innovative waste collection techniques to investigate whether this approach can contribute to the reduction of (plastic) waste in the rivers and streams in the cross-border catchment area of the Meuse, and similarly in the sea. After all, all streams and rivers eventually end up in the sea. The more we get out together before it ends up in the sea, the better!

The aim of the LIVES project partners is to jointly reduce (plastic) waste in rivers and streams by at least half. The VMM joins forces with Belgian, Dutch and German partners for this project.
